1. NEVER initiate an evacuation of self evacuate without Pro Patrol of Ski Area Management approval.
2. Check rope for proper application (7/16 minimum diameter, 2 1/2 times maximum chair to snow distance). DO NOT use working ropes.
3. Uncoil all ropes, DO NOT throw them.
4. Never step on a rope.
5. Check lift machinery and chairs for evacuation related problems.
6. In icy conditions, rig a safety line on ground for victims to hold.
7. Demonstrate T-bar use to victims before sending up.
8. Victims keep their skis on, throw poles down.
9. Have the weaker person come out first.
10. Have the victim work the T-bar off the edge of the chair BEFORE turning to face the chair.
11. "On belay" as soon as the T-bar reaches victim.
12. Belayer and helper speak loudly when giving instructions and commands. Wait for response.
13. Helper gives instructions to victim from side of chair (usually uphill).
14 Belay position should be slightly downhill from chair but not too far (load on belayer should be almost vertical).
15 Belayer should run loaded side of rope through caribiner on diaper when using body belay.
16. Stand with feet almost in line with rope when belaying.
17. Both hands should be on rope at all times.
18. Do not grip or bend rope with guide hand.
19. Always tie a knot ten feet before the trailing end of the rope.
20. Make sure the rope is free to run.
21. Check knots and equipment before lowering each victim.
22. Do not use your patrol belt as a diaper unless designed as such.
23. Use backup belayer we needed.
24. Helper should orient victim as they approach the ground.
25. When throwing rope over haul rope throw from the center out.
26. Make sure victims names are recorded.
27. Do not promise compensation to customers unless specifically authorized to do so.
28. CAUTION...low friction when using line saver. Increase friction by twisting rope around itself..
29. Long leg of a Line Saver must lead to victim.
30. When removing a rope/Line Saver from the haul rope, the Line Saver may get stuck on the haul rope. Flip it off first or tie a knot in the evac rope.
31. When in doubt, GET HELP.
